The future

I close my eyes
and for a moment
I am nine again
and life is full of promise.

The moments are new,
my thoughts unguarded,
no lingering hurts,
no fear of the future.

Life is full of possibilities,
of things to be dreamed
and tried, the future
still exciting, yet to be.

I close my eyes
and in that moment
I remember I’m sixty
and life is full of promise.

The moments are new,
my thoughts unguarded,
lingering hurts forgiven,
no fear of the the future.

And once again,
Life is full of possibilities,
of things to be dreamed
and tried, the future

still exciting, yet to be.

fog retreats

the tears that
flowed again
now stopped

the fog that
crept back in
now retreats

the joy that
once was hidden
now shines

Forward

my life is full
of twists and turns
of joy and pain
and lessons learned

my life goes forward
backwards too
and sometimes sideways
through and through

my life is blessed
in spite the strife
the goal is forward
in my life.

how does one open doors closed tight

with broken dreams
upon the floor
with shattered heart
and wanting more

how does one open
doors closed tight
and dream again
in morning light?

amid the loss
the words still come
no longer worried now
of sounding dumb

they come from heart
from deep within
and stronger now
not giving in

the door once closed
is open now
the pieces turned
and fit somehow

the broken dreams
once on the floor
recovered now
a chance to soar

the heart once stilled
bruised and battered
finds love again
no longer shattered.

Transition

I see the sun lowering
in the the western sky.
Heat of day now
cooling into night.

I hear the cooing
of the mourning dove.
The gentle sounds
on soft still winds.

I feel the wind
gently blowing my hair
across my face
as night settles in.

Dusk to dawn, then
Dawn to dusk.
Life in motion.
Life in transition.

I'm in a fog

I’m in a fog.
I cannot see
What’s to the left
Or right of me.

The world is there
However gray.
I do not see
The price I pay.

Which way is forward?
I cannot find
Familiar landmarks
In my mind.

Being human

As humans, we have an amazing capacity for love.

As humans, we also seem to have an as amazing capacity to tell others what they should do.
(based on our story of course!)

As humans, I wonder if can we find that amazing capacity within ourselves to to simply support others as they write their story?
