The war is never over

You learn the war is never over
Once you’ve fought the fight
You learn you fight forever
The wounds forever kept

The battle quiet from years ago
You face a different battle now
The diagnosis comes as a surprise
The prognosis is not good

Forty years have come and gone
One would think you’re safe
You came home then but now
You fight the battle once again

So in the hallowed ground
Another soldier laid to rest
The war that ended long ago
Claims yet another life.
